Sophomore Macy Jones set a school record with 19 strike outs and Briar Woods scored single runs in the second and third innings en route to a 2-0 win over Skyline in the Region II quarterfinals Monday afternoon in Ashburn.

The Falcons, who won their 11th straight to improve to 20-2 overall, advance to the region semifinals for the second straight year and will host Brentsville Wednesday at 7 p.m. Brentsville edged Orange County 1-0 Monday.

In Wednesday's other region semifinal game, Dulles District runner-up Park View will visit Jefferson District regular-season champion Monticello. Park View was the lone road team to pick up a win in Monday's quarterfinal round, outslugging Northwestern District champion Sherando 7-4 in Winchester. Monticello blanked Fauquier 2-0 at home Monday.

After Jones set down Skyline with three strikeouts in the top of the first, Briar Woods threatened in the home half of the inning but came up empty. Senior Holly Dominguez and Jones both walked and moved up on a passed ball. However, a strikeout and a flyout ended the inning.

The Falcons got on the board in the bottom of the second when freshman Lynn Brantley laced a one-out triple and later scored when junior Alex Fierszt beat out an infield single.

Briar Woods added its second run in the third inning when Jones smacked a leadoff triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Kasey Ball.

The two runs were more than enough for Jones, who fanned the first 13 Hawks she faced and had a perfect game going until Julie Shifflett looped single into shallow center with two outs in the fifth. Jones then posted a strikeout to end the inning.

The Hawks mounted their best scoring chance in the top of the seventh, using a pair of singles and a passed ball to place runners at second and third with two outs. However, Jones used another strikeout to end the game.

Jones scattered three singles and set a single-game school record for strikeouts for the third time this season. She first set the mark with 15 strikeouts in six innings of relief in a 3-1, 10-inning with at Potomac Falls April 30, and she surpassed that mark with 18 strikeouts against Loudoun County in the Dulles District Tournament semifinals May 25.
